Stardew Valley Developer Shows Off 1.6 Update & Release Date

The Stardew Valley maker reveals new winter clothes, fireworks, and a New Year’s festival coming in version 1.6! Check out the details and screenshots here.

Huge news for any Stardew Valley fans out there! The game’s creator Eric Barone (who goes by ConcernedApe) posted a little sneak peek at the upcoming 1.6 update. And it shows some wild new additions are on the way!

We get a glimpse of special winter outfits for the townspeople, colorful fireworks, and what looks like a New Year’s celebration. Keep reading to see the pics yourself and learn about the other sweet new features coming soon in the big patch.

Winter Fashion Show

Let’s begin with the fact that everyone in the new screenshot has got a costume change! All the familiar Pelican Town faces are sporting warm winter gear like beanies, heavy jackets, gloves and scarves.

So it seems we’ll be able to dress our farmer in special cold weather clothes too once the update drops. No more running around in the snow wearing a T-shirt and shorts!

Having seasonal outfits is something the Stardew community has requested for a while now. It adds a fun bit of extra realism and variety as the in-game year progresses. We just hope there will be multiple style options to choose from!

These winter looks previewed by ConcernedApe are pretty fashionable too. Haley is totally rocking that pink earmuff and sweater combo. And Sebastian is looking extra broody wearing all black as usual!

Fireworks Show Lights Up the Sky

The next exciting reveal in the teaser image is what’s happening above everyone’s head. The farmer can be seen holding and setting off a fiery red firework! Sparks fly as it explodes into the shape of a lovely big heart.

Some eagle-eyed fans digging through the game code found references to blue and cyan fireworks as well. So we may get a mini fireworks festival with different colors and effects to enjoy.

Setting off your own firecrackers or watching a computerized display would make for amazing additional content. Plus the heart-shaped one hints at romance options too!

New Year’s Party Brings Everyone Together

Now let’s talk about why the whole town has gathered together in this little sneak preview. ConcernedApe dropped the image right at midnight on January 1st, 2024. We also see a “Happy New Year!” message on a signpost behind the characters.

So it’s very likely that Stardew Valley 1.6 will introduce a New Year’s festival or party! All the townspeople come together, wear their holiday best, launch fireworks, and celebrate the end of one year and beginning of the next.

Considering the base game already has seasonal events like the Egg Festival, LUAU, Feast of the Winter Star and others, this makes total sense. It fleshes out the in-game calendar even more and gives us another fun way to ring in the new year with Pelican Town!

We do wonder if special New Year’s themed items and activities will be added too. More cooking recipes would be amazing, as well as party poppers, noisemakers or other celebratory decorations! Either way, the update is looking better all the time.
